Despite rough welcome, round one goes to Cutler (AP)

Mon, 2009-08-31 08:22
Long before the game was over, even the announcers were second-guessing Josh McDaniels. Not because of anything he did Sunday night, but because of what the Denver rookie coach was thinking last February. Shortly after taking the job, McDaniels hatched a plan to get quarterback Matt Cassel from his former employers and wound up driving incumbent quarterback Jay Cutler out of town and into the arms...

Filling up at a gas station before the game, Ryan Aloi was booed. Getting food, he was jeered. From there, the razzing only got worse for the 32-year-old fan. The taunts weren't personal, just directed at his Chicago Bears Jay Cutler jersey. Wearing Cutler apparel is an easy way to get under the skin of Broncos fans.

The quarterback couldn't stop praising his new team and his new surroundings, only this wasn't Jay Cutler talking about the Chicago Bears. It was Kyle Orton speaking of the Broncos. While Cutler's return to Denver is grabbing the headlines, he won't be the only quarterback facing his former team in Sunday's preseason game.

Now that they've been separated for five months, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has high praise for Broncos rookie coach Josh McDaniels, whom he'll see in a preseason game at Invesco Field this weekend. Jay Cutler gave a glimpse of why he was a Pro Bowl quarterback last season, and how he can transform the Chicago Bears' offense by his mere presence. He directed, he rolled out, he threw passes of varying distances and speeds with his strong arm, and one time -- on a play that must have made his coaches nervous -- took off on a 12-yard scramble.

Jay Cutler wasted little time showing the fans at Soldier Field what they've been waiting to see ever since he joined the Chicago Bears. Thu, 2009-08-20 03:50
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler insisted the reaction to his postgame comments last week didn't bother him. Still, he made a point to smooth things over with wide receiver Devin Hester. Bills hurry-up offense too much for Bears (AP)

Sun, 2009-08-16 03:41
Trent Edwards has plenty to be happy about with the new-look, no-huddle offense that's working to near perfection for Buffalo. It's a much different story for Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears. Those expecting Cutler to immediately transform the Bears into anything resembling a pass-happy offense had better be patient.
